Abstract

While there is plenty of water on Earth, only 3% of this water is freshwater. A significant portion of this freshwater however is unsuitable for human use. Over 2.2 billion people worldwide do not have consistent access to clean and safe drinking water. Water pollution is a growing environmental concern and the removal of contaminants or purification of water presents a multi-billion-dollar problem. Additionally, there are no systems for managing the full pipeline of water quality monitoring, quantity monitoring, and purification at the same time with real-time data. To address this, we propose developing a water quality and quantity monitoring and purification system with real-time web deployment. The system will be helpful for monitoring water quality and quantity and also treating polluted water by removing heavy metals, bacteria, and microorganisms and making it fit for drinking. The expected solution is an Internet of Things (IoT) system, which includes a data recording system consisting of sensors, circuity, battery, memory, transmission components and online storage. The online platform features analytics, a billing system, and data visualization. These systems, along with an interactive notification system, will motivate citizens towards water efficiency and improve awareness about water safety.
